Make no mistake, I have done a lot of roofing projects in my lifetime for myself and for contractors and I’ve done a lot of volunteer work on residential and commercial buildings and I know how hard roofing is.

In the volunteer work, we had a good system in which a demolition crew of thirty to forty people would come in, usually early in the morning and strip the roof. If a good crew came in, and depending on the size of the building, the stripping work could be done in as little as three to four hours,. So around noon, we would all take a break for lunch and then the new roofing crew would take over. There weren't nearly as many roofers to install the new roof because most of the demolition crew didn’t know all the codes and processes associated with installing a new roof so almost all the demolition crew would leave.

I remember many times there would be many nailing guns, stacks of shingles and the “Ice and Water Shield on the roof and no one to run the equipment, even though we had instructors to teach and guide anyone willing to stay and complete the job. That meant that those of us left to complete the project had no choice but to stick around until the roofing job was done because, obviously, no roof can remain uncovered for any length of time. I remember staying and finishing some of those jobs late in the evening or having to come back the next day and finish the job. Either way, the job had to be done and it didn’t matter whether we had to go to work the next day or not. So often, I would try to think of other ways to speed up and streamline the process and, in some way, make it go easier and faster.

As I would run each and every step of the processes through my mind, I kept thinking about each motion that an installer must go through to affix each and every single shingle to the structure and try to think of ways to either make that movement go faster or eliminate it, if at all possible.
That's why I began to develop Speed Shingles
